Em 1990 John Plain formou a banda Crybabys com Darrel Bath (guitarra/vocal), Robbie Rushton (bateria) e John Cooper (baixo). A banda foi muito aclamada pela crítica, especialmente pela revista Kerrang e lançou 3 álbuns de sucesso.
